The more mythical and fairytale-like creatures lurk deep within the biomes. You’ll find lots of majestic real-life animals as mobs such as deer, bighorn sheep, and bunny. The idea is somewhat risky, considering its easier to bring your player to the other dimension. Twilight Forest begins with you creating the portal.

This year, however, I have signed up with a personal trainer and I’m going once a week. I’d put on a couple of extra pounds and I had put together a plan on how I was going to get rid of those. I don’t know how you feel, but one of my ongoing goals (and one that is always included on my vision board) is to improve my health and fitness and, most of the time, shed a few pounds. The fact that keeping a journal is the most effective technique to achieve one’s objectives and realise one’s ambitions is the facet of keeping a journal that I enjoy the most. You are already aware that beginning a Bullet Journal for weight loss is going to have a significant impact on your life and that this straightforward organisational method can be applied to every aspect of your life. So this is step one in a series of posts about weight loss fitness and other things you can pop into your bullet journal for weight loss! I was in DENIAL! I was also really scared about writing about it because of all the body-shaming stuff that happens. Right, I was hesitant to write a post about weight loss – and especially nervous to write about it in my bullet journal! It was like a Bridget Jones diary of weight loss! I wasn’t really prepared to put my thoughts on paper in a weight loss diary.

What is bonzi buddys speach sound4/5/2024 ![]() For example, when I used the seal to elicit /s/ with central air stream production, Jace simply “adjusted” his tongue on the speech buddy (despite my best efforts to prevent him from doing so) to produce /s/ laterally resulting in sound distortion. Needless to say that numerous attempts using speech buddies were not productive, to say the least. Jace also has a number of other issues going on including poor jaw stability, fine and gross motor function deficits as well as significant tongue groping. Jace has a pretty complex speech profile and presents with a number of unsuppressed phonological processes such as stopping, palatal fronting, and a few other processes as well as a frontal and a lateral lisp (yes you’ve read this correctly). In other words for Brock, the use of speech buddies was great but no different from the use of other simple placement tools.įinally, there was my last client who is 4.5 years old. However, when the speech buddies were replaced by other oral placement tools Brock also produced all the speech sound appropriately as well as was able to produce select sounds e.g., /s/, /sh/, /r/ spontaneously without placement assistance. Brock produced the required sounds with all the speech buddies appropriately. With Brock, I have trialed 4/5 speech buddies targeting all the affected sounds for two sessions. ![]() My third client let’s call him Brock was an 8-year-old with a frontal lisp affecting all sibilants as well as an /r/ distortion. Unfortunately, rather than improving his sound production Van began to actually produce the sound with a tangible distortion (something which did not happen in the past when I attempted tongue placement for the /l/ with the cotton-tipped applicator) so I had to discontinue the use of the ‘lion’ immediately because I didn’t wish to undo all the gains he had achieved to date. The one sound he still had some intermittent trouble with was /l/ so I decided to use the ‘lion’ with him to see whether it will expedite his progress. At that time Van was stimulable for all sounds and was making good progress in therapy on slowing down his speech rate to be more intelligible. Interestingly, later after I initiated the use of the tongue depressor as well as cotton-tipped applicator to aid with tongue placement, I was able to finally elicit /r/ productively and without distortions. Dale was able to uncurl the coil to slide the tongue but then continued groping movements with his tongue, so the /r/production continued to be distorted. I used the ‘rabbit’ with him for the duration of 3 more sessions, but unfortunately also unsuccessfully. Prior to receiving the set I had worked with him for 3 sessions and attempted to elicit the sound unsuccessfully. Dale had only one residual sound error: the dreaded /r/. So after receiving my set I immediately started trialing each individual speech buddy with my clients.įirst up was the 9-year-old, let’s call him Dale. They are marketed to both: speech-language professionals as well as parents and average about $300 per set of 5 and $124 individually.īelow you can see a diagram showing how to position each speech buddy in the child’s mouth in order to elicit a sound. So what are speech buddies exactly? For those of you who are unfamiliar with this product here’s a few pictures:Įssentially these are articulation tools (with cute animal names such as rabbit, cheetah, shark, lion, and seal) with specially designed tips aimed at teaching tongue placement for the following sounds: /r/, /s/, /sh/, /ch/ and /l/. Do the speech buddies justify their cost?.How does the use of a speech buddy compare with the use of a “traditional” oral placement implements (e.g., bite block, tongue depressor, cotton tip applicator, etc). ![]() Does the use of a particular speech buddy really shorten the time needed to attain sound mastery? (Since on their intro page a chart shows them to be twice as faster in eliciting correct sound production).Prior to initiating the use of the speech buddies I have posed a number of questions for myself including: My client’s ages were 3.5, 4.5, 8, and 9. So today I’ll be describing my experiences using speech buddies in speech therapy with several clients. ![]()

Car maintenance mileage checklist4/4/2024 Tire pressure needs to be checked every month or before going on a long road trip.ĭriving the car regularly on roads can expose it to dirt, dust, rocks, and much more. You can have a visual inspection of the tire to check its condition. You should check once every month.Ī tire check is most important to ensure safety. You should check whether your car’s lights like the headlights, brake lights, turn signal lights, and parking lightsare properly working or not. ![]() You may need to clean the blades more often if you see any leftover water streaking to the windshield after swipe. You can use a washcloth to clean the wiper blades. You need to check and clean the wiper blades every month to keep them in good condition. The other fluids also need to be checked frequently for better performance. They are transmission fluid, brake fluids, and washer fluids. Other fluidsare needed to run a car other than engine oil and coolant. You must check the coolant reserve under the hood to check the coolant level. If your tank runs out of coolant, it becomes overheated and causes damage to the engine. You also need to check the coolant level. The coolant helps to keep your car engine cool when driving. To check the oil level, you have to use a dipstick, or for some newer model vehicles, you can use an electronic gauge. You can check it on your own without going to a service center. ![]() It’s mainly important to check before a long trip. The oil level should be checked every month or after every few gas fill-ups. ![]() “No first-person narratives” is a clear statement that personal stories are not appropriate in that classroom. In addition to your specific rhetorical situation, of course, you should always comply with your professors’ guidelines for each assignment. ![]() Consider carefully whether personal narrative belongs in papers you are writing for history, biology, or business classes. Given the essays you will read about in this chapter, imagine the larger audiences that the student writers might have been addressing. Often in writing classes it seems that your audience is specifically your professor and secondarily, perhaps, your classmates. In my hypothetical art history essay, the narrative would confuse the reader as to the purpose of the project and distract from the actual message of the paper. Stated simply (perhaps too simply), the rhetorical situation – the writer, the audience, and the purpose of the writing – affects the way the message is presented. Your composition professor will likely talk to you about the rhetorical situation of any piece of writing. However, if I were writing an essay for my art history class about the evolution of weaving techniques and equipment, my story would seem out of place, as I only have experience with one step in that evolution, and that experience is of an observer rather than a participant. My story of working in Rebecca’s shop is useful here – it is intended to attract the attention of the readers and to establish and explain the extended metaphor of weaving. The first consideration is whether using personal narrative is appropriate for your project. However, in this essay, I – yes, “I” – am here to help you step away from those rules and to use personal stories effectively in your academic writing. The opening of this essay has broken all of those so-called rules – it contains a personal story, told in the first person, that at first glance seems unrelated to the topic of writing. Many of you have been taught not to use the word “I” in your academic writing not to include anything that does not directly relate to that mysterious thing called a “thesis statement ” and not to include anything personal in your writing. So what does this have to do with writing? The act of weaving was moving the shuttle with the weft through the warp to create the weave. The weft (formerly known as woof) was placed on bobbins that fed the shuttle. She threaded the warp, the yarn that runs lengthwise, onto the loom. She created her patterns then transferred them into a computer program that told her how to thread the yarn onto the loom to produce the pattern. When one fabric came off the loom, Anne, the seamstress, would begin to cut and sew while Rebecca set up the loom for the next design. Her loom took up half of the back room and she wove while I waited on customers. Rebecca was a weaver who made hand-woven clothing and scarves. ![]() We carried many styles of hand-made clothing, jewelry, and accessories, but our most important merchandise was that made by Rebecca herself. I was luckier than many of my classmates: I found a job at a hip little boutique called Rebecca: A Gallery of Wearable Art in the trendy part of town. Like many students, I worked my way through college with a retail job. Students will benefit from the peer-written examples as well as the use of the personal in the essay itself. “Warp and Weft” contains a discussion of three students who incorporated narrative in their essays in three ways: as a structural frame, as an example when the research topic and personal experience overlap, and as a tool for discovery. The essay is structured as an example of the use of personal experience as well as a how-to guide. ![]() Rather than debate whether narrative is appropriate for academic writing, it addresses the question of when is it appropriate and how it can be done effectively, focusing on helping writers decide when the use of personal experience is appropriate for their purpose, how to make personal experience and narrative pull its weight in the essay, and how the ability to incorporate personal experience can translate into the ability to incorporate research. “Warp and Weft” uses the metaphor of weaving to demonstrate one way of using personal and narrative writing within academic essays. 11 Weaving Personal Experience into Academic Writing |
